3 Reasons To Take Your Litter Of Puppies Into The Vet

When your dog has a litter of puppies, it is not only up to your dog to take care of them, but it is going to be up to you as well. There are certain things that you are going to need to take your litter of puppies into the vet for in order to be sure that they are healthy and otherwise well cared for. This article is going to discuss 3 reasons to take your litter of puppies into the vet.

Cosmetic Procedures

If your puppies are going to be registered with a kennel club, American, Canadian, or another, you are going to need to make sure that they meet certain breed standards. This can sometimes involve your puppies needing to go through some cosmetic procedures when they are very small. One such procedure is to have their dewclaws removed. This is an extra claw that goes up the side of their leg and has to be removed in order for your puppy to meet the breed standards that are needed for them to be registered. Another procedure may be for them to have their ears cropped so that they stand on end. This is commonly done amongst Doberman Pinchers, Great Danes, and Boxers. For either of these procedures, you are going to want to take your puppies into the vet to have them safely and properly perform the procedures for you.

Physical Examination

Before your puppies are given to their new owners, it is important that you take them into the vet to receive a complete physical examination. The vet is going to check them from head to tail during this physical examination, and will ensure that their eyes, ears, mouth, teeth, skin, paws, nails, etc., all look great. They are also likely going to ask you questions about each of the puppy's eating, drinking, and bathroom habits as well. This is to ensure that they are eating properly and are going to the bathroom regularly.

Deworming And Shots

During their physical examination appointment, they are generally going to receive a de-wormer and their first round of shots. The de-wormer is going to ensure that they don't have any worms that could have a negative impact on their overall health. The first shot is also the first in a series of shots that will protect them from getting a variety of illnesses or diseases, such as parvovirus, rabies, etc.
